Since our inception in 2005 (as the KCMO CDE), it has been our mission and purpose to support investment in under served and under resourced communities throughout Kansas City, Missouri.

Our MISSION

To be a catalyst for investments in Kansas City, Missouri's low- to moderate-income communities through innovative financing products, targeted economic development programming, and the development of strategic partnerships that promote economic growth and empowerment.

Our PURPOSE

As the only Kansas City, Missouri based and focused, mission-driven CDFI (we're also one of the few minority-controlled CDFIs in the country), we endeavor to reduce economic disparities in our hometown by providing alternative capital through a wide range of financial products that are meant to support high impact, small business investments in low- to moderate-income (LMI) communities not adequately served by traditional financial institutions. Whether it is through the New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) Program, targeted loan funds, microloans, or any of the other alternative capital sources we offer, AltCap is committed to delivering critical financing to support job creating small business investments and catalytic real estate development projects in our service area.

In addition to providing alternative capital, AltCap supports investment in LMI communities through economic empowerment by providing business development and entrepreneurship training which includes Workshop In Business Opportunities (WIBO) - a nationally renowned 16-week peer-to-peer entrepreneurship and business training program.

Our service area

AltCap's service area consists of severely distressed census tracts within Kansas City, Missouri as defined by the CDFI Fund of the U.S. Department of the Treasury.  To view a map of where we target our resources and programming click here.

Our results

Although created in 2005, it was not until 2008 that our journey began as a mission-based organization, committed to supporting critical investments in our city's most economically distressed communities.  Our annual reports show an organization that has stayed true to its mission and purpose and in only a short time has made a tremendous impact in communities throughout Kansas City, Missouri.

And, we are just getting started.
